All passengers survive 'miraculous' in a plane crash in South Sudan

There were no deaths among 49 passengers and flight crew members, after a South Sudan plane yesterday crashed into the ground, hitting a car and caught fire.

"It's amazing, really," CNN quoted Ateny Wek Ateny, South Sudan's presidential spokesman, saying. "Only people are slightly injured, no dead people".

South Supreme Airlines plane crashed yesterday at an airport in the town of Wau, northwestern Sudan. Ateny said the pilot who controlled the plane crossed the runway, crashing into an unpaved land. The right wing of the plane crashed into cars and fire began to flare up to the right. The pilot opens the door near the tail, where there is no fire.

"The flight crew managed to evacuate everyone," Ateny said. Officials could not find all the passengers because they left the scene.

The Antonov 26 aircraft carried 44 passengers and 5 flight crew members, AP quoted Stephen Youngule, airport manager in Wau, said. The injured were taken to hospital in Wau for treatment.

Aircraft take off from the capital Juba to Wau. Most passengers are South Sudanese, only two foreigners, including one Chinese and one Eritrea.
