America helps Vietnam fight against influenza

The International Development Agency (USAID) and the US Department of Health today announced a US $ 10.5 million grant to help Vietnam prevent and control bird flu and human flu.

With the coordination of relevant ministries of Vietnam and through non-governmental organizations, aid will support monitoring and capacity building mechanisms for veterinary laboratories and research support. , strengthening infectious control and medical surveillance capacity.

In the above aid, $ 1.5 million will be disbursed through the World Health Organization to help Vietnam develop bird flu vaccine for humans. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will provide US $ 1 million for technical assistance to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health.

Since 2005, the US government has contributed more than $ 22 million to Vietnam to support efforts to prevent and control bird flu in Vietnam.
