The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced five-year programs on clean, adaptive, sustainable landscapes to help Vietnam respond to the impacts of climate change and land use.

The Vietnam Forest and Delta Program and USAID's Vietnam Clean Energy Program - with a total value of over 40 million USD - will be implemented from October 2012 to October 2017. The two programs are in line with the Vietnamese government's climate change policies and programs, including the newly promulgated Green Growth Strategy. They are the first two large USAID grants in this area.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and relevant Vietnamese government agencies, the USAID Forest and Delta Program will support the application of realities. use of land to cope with deforestation, forest degradation and other landscapes and increase resilience of people, regions and livelihoods in the delta through support to increase resilience and disaster risk management.

Vietnam is often considered one of the five countries in the world most vulnerable to climate change. The Mekong and Red River basins are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen are also particularly vulnerable. The program will take into account the gender issues behind disaster risk management and natural resource use.

Vietnam Clean Energy Program will contribute about US $ 12 million to explore ways of collecting, managing, analyzing and using energy sector data and promoting energy efficiency in the areas of use. a lot of energy in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Construction and relevant agencies of the Government of Vietnam. USAID said the program will also encourage public and private investment to test useful renewable and energy-saving technologies for Vietnam in the coming years. USAID has provided more than 588 million USD for development and relief activities in Vietnam from 2000 to the present.
