America put satellite reconnaissance on orbit
The American rocket was launched yesterday to bring a military spy satellite into orbit.
The Atlas 5 rocket carries the NROL-67 satellite launched from Cape Canaveral Air Base at 17:45 (GMT). The satellite is put into orbit to carry out the duties of the US National Reconnaissance Agency (NRO). The NRO is the unit that designs, installs and operates the country's spy satellites.
The rocket is equipped with a Centaur engine and four suspension-type rocket engines. With this configuration, the Atlas 5 missile can carry a payload of about 3,500kg to orbit at a height of 35,000km above the Earth's surface. However, according to Reuters, the information about the load of missiles has not been announced.
Experts say the missile is expected to be launched on March 25. The plan was delayed due to problems in the missile tracking radar system. The radar is part of a secure system, ensuring that a missile with trouble will not threaten densely populated areas. If a missile leaves the intended route, experts can activate the explosive device so that missile fragments fall into the ocean.
