An Indonesian teenager infected with bird flu
Yesterday, the Indonesian Ministry of Health said a 14-year-old teenager was tested positive for bird flu and the country's first human case in the past two months.
The teenager lived in Tangerang, West Java, and was hospitalized in the capital Jakarta after having bird flu symptoms on January 1. Authorities are investigating the cause, although the teenager has been exposed to ducks. Thus, the number of people infected with bird flu in Indonesia so far has reached 75 people, including 57 people died.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong government confirmed the wild bird died in Causeway Bay shopping district on December 31 last due to infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus (previously identified as the H5 virus).
