Animal fiends 'love' is crazy, intense to death

Males of some insectivorous mammal species in Australia can be madly in love, even for 14 hours with their females until it weakens and dies.

Diana Fisher, a zoologist at the University of Queensland, Australia, has been involved in studying the possibility of 'suicide spawning' of some insectivores in Pacific islands like New Guinea and Australia, in particular. is a species named Antechinus.

Fisher revealed that these animals have very strange characteristics, males can mature quickly after 1 year and die soon after mating. Unlike male ink and spiders that can die after mating much to produce thousands of babies, the dead animals have the reason to fertilize their offspring with sperm of the highest quality.

Comparing these marsupials with other pocket-sized species with a longer life cycle, scientists were surprised to find that 'suicide-producing' animals with larger testicles Much more than body size. It is because these animals want to store sperm better and only stop producing sperm before mating, so Fisher can put all its energy into mating.

Even in the Antechinus marsupial , males can mate for 14 hours so that their muscles are about to explode to get better energy. After mating, the males are exhausted and often die from infection or internal bleeding.

In contrast, females of 'suicide spawning' species can mate with many males. Although many of its partners must be 'sacrificed' , only the strongest sperm will be combined with eggs to conceive.
