Putnisite mineral is purple, formed from the combination of strontium, calcium, sulfur, chromium, carbon, oxygen and hydrogen elements. The chemical formula of this mineral is: SrCa 4 Cr 83 + (CO 3 ) 8SO 4 (OH) 16 • 25H 2 O. Scientists identify a combination of elements that make up Putnisite very unusual.

The page sci-news.com quoted Dr. Peter Elliott as saying: 'Most of the minerals found before belong to a group of substances. If they are not closely related, then at least belong to a group of synthetic compounds. But Putnisite is completely unlike any mineral found before. '

Putnisite has a hardness of 1.5 - 2 Mohs. It was discovered in a volcanic rock block in Western Australia. This mineral name is named after Christine and Andrew Putnis - two people discovered it.

Now scientists are studying the structure and properties of Putnisite to find out its applicability.
