Australia try the supersonic civilian aircraft

Scientists have tested the technology of producing supersonic passenger aircraft in Australia. Officials say the new technology could revolutionize the civil aviation industry.

Warren Snowdon, the Australian Minister of Science and Technology, said at super-fast speeds, the plane only took about two hours to fly 17,000 km. The trial is the result of a joint study between Australian and American military scientists.

'Supersonic aircraft can travel at speeds up to five times the speed of sound. We have tested the technology of manufacturing aircraft and control systems that future planes will use , "Snowdon said.

Test aircraft were put into space from the Woomera air base by rocket. Then it plunged into the atmosphere at a supersonic speed. Nitrogen gas throttles act as propulsors to adjust the flight path and altitude of the aircraft.

"This test shows that supersonic flights can become a reality in the not so distant future, bringing tremendous economic and strategic benefits to Australia. Ultrasound technology not only helps boost speed and fuel efficiency, but also reduces travel time between continents, " Snowdon said.
