The award-winning team is a group of 16 scientists from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hanoi Medical University and Corneal Endocrinology of the Central Eye Hospital with research works on cell technology in the Treating the surface of the eyeball by Associate Professor Nguyen Thi Binh.

After successful culture the epithelium will transplant itself into the cornea for the patient.
This is a new method being applied in the world and is still being studied while in Vietnam this is a completely new method, no research and application units have been applied. The old methods being used in Vietnam such as amniotic membrane grafting, autologous corneal grafting and grafting of the heterosexuals all have many limitations.
Starting research from 2004, to 1/3/2008, the research topic of the group of scientists successfully implanted for the first patient according to the new method. Up to now, through 3 research projects (1 project at the ministry level, 1 branch project under the state-level project and one state-level independent topic), the group of Assoc. for 15 cases of eyeball surface damage with a success rate of 65-80%, equivalent to advanced countries in the world.
