Beautiful scenery in the desert

Many of us think that the desert is a dry, harsh and lifeless place. However, some desert landscapes may make adventurers unable to walk.

Giant sloping sand dunes are the most prominent feature of Dumont Dunes area in the Mojave desert, California, USA. Although Dumont Dunes doesn't have any creature, thousands of people still come here every year. They bring cars, boards and other things to slide sand.

The towering tip of a giant sand dune in the Arabian desert is directed towards the setting sun. The Sahara, Iran, Thar and Arab deserts are all in the dry land of 9,600 square kilometers in North Africa.

The crescent-shaped part of a sand dune in the desert of Oman is made up of strong trade winds. The opposite part of the wind direction is smooth, while the back is shaped like a basin.

The winds create countless wave-shaped sand dunes on the Omani desert. Such areas appear in many other deserts around the world. Many people call them "sand sea".

A white dune in the Simpson desert (Australia) reflects the sunlight on the clear blue sky. Each year the desert Simpson receives less than 200 mm of rain.
