Best photo of National Geographic in 2010

National Geographic magazine has just announced the first prize of each topic in the 2010 Beautiful Photo Contest organized by this magazine.

The 2010 National Geographic beautiful photo contest attracted more than 16,000 photos of professional and amateur photographers around the world. The winner of the first prize for each theme will receive $ 10,000 and a tour of the National Geographic headquarters in Washington (USA):

First prize for People

A photo of a farmer who controls two cows in a traditional mud race in Indonesia won the first prize of the People of National Geographic's 2010 Beauty Photo Contest. The author of this photo is a Hong Kong photographer, Chan Kwok Hung .

Boating on mud is a traditional festival held every year in Indonesia. Farmers believe that the success of the competition will bring good luck and good weather in the upcoming season.

Photographer Jana Asenbrennerova , from San Francisco (USA), won the first place in the Location theme with a photo of workers cutting a huge 'dead' ship in Chittagong, Bangladesh for metal. Chittagong is considered one of the world's largest ship dumps.

Author Jana Asenbrennerova said the work of destroying these ships was very toxic, but Bangladeshi workers were forced to accept money to maintain their lives and their families.

A photo of an erupting volcano in Gunung Rinjani National Park (Indonesia) by Singaporean author Boon Teck won the first prize in Nature. With this award, Boon Teck, along with the award-winning authors of other topics, will receive $ 10,000 and a tour of the National Geographic headquarters in Washington (USA).

The photo of a giant tornado swept through a prairie in Montana (USA) by American photographer Sean Heavey won the second prize of Nature. Large tornadoes like this can cause heavy rain, which causes heavy damage to people and property where they pass.
