British nuclear plant closed because of jellyfish

Both reactors of the Torness nuclear plant in the UK were closed yesterday after the sea of ​​jellyfish swarmed into the factory.

According to BBC , the jellyfish clog the water filter of the cooling system . EDF Energy said the plant was forced to close to prevent danger and ensure safety for the people.

The cleanup campaign is underway, but it is expected that the Torness plant will start operating again next week.

Torness has two gas-cooled refrigeration reactors but still has to rely on seawater to ensure safety. The plant has filters designed to prevent algae and marine organisms from entering the cooling system. If these filters are blocked, the reactors will stop working to ensure safety.

It is unclear why there are so many jellyfish in the sea. Some Japanese nuclear plants have also suffered problems from being attacked by jellyfish in the last few years.
