Charge wirelessly for up to 40 phones

Researchers at the Korea Institute of Advanced Science and Technology (KAIST) have built a wireless charging facility for 40 smartphones. They hope in the future this device can be used in public charging points like the current free WiFi points.

The device was built by KAIST called Magnetic Bipolar Coiling System . The device includes a transmitter with two magnetic coils that can be used to charge the phone within 5 meters of an electromagnetic induction. In addition to the phone, KAIST's equipment can also charge large TVs or electric fans.

Since it is only in the experimental phase, the cost of the device is quite expensive. But manufacturers believe their devices will soon be put to practical use. T. Rim Chun Professor of KAIST Institute said: "Like the Wi-Fi now, in the future we will have charging points free Wi-Power fitted in the streets and restaurants, making it easy for people to charge their phones. "

Prior to KAIST, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2007 created a wireless charging system called WiTricity, but the charging range was only two meters.
