China creates cosmic black holes

Two Chinese scientists have reported that they have created a small black hole in the laboratory, but it is only capable of absorbing light.

" What we created is not a real black hole. It's just a device that simulates the effect of black holes. The device can hold and absorb electromagnetic waves, but it doesn't attract objects." So we call it electromagnetic black hole , "Tie Jun Cui, a professor of Southeastern University (China), said.

According to Wired Science , the power of electromagnetic black holes is far less than the average sized black holes in the universe. Cui and Qiang Cheng, a colleague of his, created fake black holes from electrical circuits. They created 60 circular circuits and then attached them above the copper plates so they could interact with the electromagnetic waves. After connecting 60 circuits together, Cui noticed that the system absorbed all the short-wavelength light rays.

Space argues that if Cui's black hole is full of characteristics like the real black hole in the universe, it can swallow the earth.

" But our black hole does not pose any threat," Cui said.

Scientists believe that Cui's invention could be used to extract energy from the sun by absorbing light rays.
