China successfully cloned Tibetan goats

China cloned two living Tibetan goats from the somatic cells of adult goats, helping to prevent the highland cattle breed from degenerating.

According to "China Daily" newspaper, this milestone marks an important step in preserving the Tibetan goat breed, preventing the decline of cattle breeds that play an important role in this region's ecosystem.

The Tibetan goat breeding program was carried out by a research team from Northwest A&F University in Qinghai Province, China, using cells from 3 donated male goats and 1 female goat. The first Tibetan goat born under the clonal breeding program weighed 3.4kg, had good physical condition, and brought many prospects for good adaptation to the regional environment.

The program team emphasized the role of cloning technology in improving the quality and efficiency of conservation of the Tibetan goat breed, which is the main source of income for local nomadic livestock farmers. Through cloning research, scientists want to promote the growth of Tibetan goat herds, ultimately increasing income for farmers and herders in the region.
