China tested the fast neutron reactor
According to TNHK, China has announced that it has achieved a new breakthrough in nuclear technology with the first test of a fast neutron reactor.
The Chinese Institute of Nuclear Energy said it tested a small reactor outside Beijing on July 21 and linked it to the grid to produce electricity. New technology increases the efficiency of uranium energy in reactors, so less uranium is used in electricity production.
This also means that the nuclear waste of old, inefficient reactors can be reused. Experts say the new technology also reduces radioactive waste.
However, neutron reactors also have disadvantages such as latent cooling systems with more risks.
The test confirmed Beijing's determination to become a leading reformist nation in the nuclear power industry, despite the country's postponement of building new nuclear power plants to test carpet safety measures. Nuclear painting in Japan last March.
