China will build its own satellites
China has decided to build its own telecommunications satellites from now until 2010, thus enhancing research and development in this area.
According to Sun Laiyan, there are only 1 satellite every 12 satellites made by China. All remaining satellites are purchased from abroad.
After using foreign technology for nearly three decades, China will now be self-sufficient in the national industry. Sensitive sectors such as defense, energy, telephone or rail transport have made great efforts in using only Chinese technology.
China's space program reached its highest speed in 2003. After the United States and Russia, the country will become the third power to bring people into space by their own means.
Last October, China launched the first moon survey satellite in its history and announced that it will build a fourth space center. This is the first step towards moving people to the Moon by 2020.
