Decode sacred holes for thousands of years in the ground

After the discovery of the Cham ruins deeper than 2m in Phong Le village in Hoa Tho Dong, Cam Le and Da Nang areas, archaeologists focused their research to decipher the mysteries of sacred holes in the tower. newly revealed .

>>>The largest area of ancient Cham tower discovered

During the excavation process many days ago, archaeologists found a strange yellow object, mixed in the sand in the tower. The initial judgment may be gold (the type of gold that the folk called Golden River) can the ancient Cham people use to cultivate charms?

The mysteries of the tower with the mysteries in the structure after excavation are being deciphered by archaeologists. Right at the tower site is defined as the altar of the main temple complex in the complex of Cham Pa temple relic recently discovered here, the archaeological team has discovered a holy hole with an area of 4.26m, depth 1.8m.

Right in this sacred hole, archaeologists have seized about 32m 3 of sand and stone covering the sacred hole.

What is surprising to archaeologists is that each layer of stone is carefully arranged according to a clear process. Just one layer of stone is a layer of pure white sand, not something else.

Even in the sacred hole, after removing all the rock and soil that has revealed in the sacred hole, there are sacred cavities located at the bottom and a circular hole in the middle with a diameter of 1m.

Archaeologists participating in the excavation here said: The arrangement of a square brick is placed on a cylindrical pebble. This is probably the symbol of the traditional Cham beliefs that are Linga and Yoni.

Linga is a cylindrical block that symbolizes a positive, usually on Yoni, symbolizing negative. If in these sacred holes, the bricks and pebbles symbolize Yoni and Linga, their arrangement is quite different, Yoni is placed on Linga.

So what does it mean to put the quartz stone in front of the sacred cavities? This is the problem that archaeologists still haven't deciphered.

Archaeologists explain that: The old people conceived, white quartz is a stone of the universe accumulating energy of heaven and earth. It is quartz stone that receives, activates, stores and amplifies energy.

Thus, along with square bricks, cylindrical pebbles, this can be seen as a cover of the sacred pit. However, what the meaning of objects is, archaeologists are in the process of research.

The process of excavating sacred holes, archaeologists found that around the pit and in the middle of the sacred hole are also cylindrical pebbles and quartzite mixed in fine white sand.

Based on the arrangement of quartz stones in the sacred niches, as well as the study of Hindu beliefs, there is a coincidence of respect for the central position. So archaeologists predict that in the middle of this hole, there will be a shrine of Linga and Yoni that has been taken away before.

According to archives, right at this newly discovered Champa tower site in the early twentieth century, the French collected some artifacts, which are on display at the Champa Sculpture Museum. : Linga, cow god Nandin (rider of the god Silva), doors . Is it possible that the French had previously excavated archaeological sites here and collected many artifacts in this temple tower? Questions are gradually revealed after scientists compare.

Painter Nguyen Thuong Hy, who has been attached to the areas to the Cham Tower in the Central region for over 30 years, is currently drawing in this sacred hole, saying: This is a fairly large temple tower, the largest and most strange sacred hole from So far you see.

Hy said, right at the F1 tower and G1 of My Son, the width of the sacred hole he carefully measured is 2.31m and 2.30m, ie the difference is 11 centimeters. But in the sacred hole just discovered in Phong Lệ, this is exactly 4.26m exactly.

The strange thing is that in the sacred places of the temple towers that he had witnessed and drawn from the past few decades, there are no sacred sacred niches in Phong Le.

The archeology team continued to excavate and discovered unexpectedly as eight sacred niches arranged symmetrically. Archaeological predictions suggest that all eight sacred cavities symbolize the four directions of eight directions. The sacred cavities are set in the direction: East - West - South - North and Northeast - Northwest - Southeast - Southwest.

This excavation process of the temple tower in Phong Le, archaeologists determined the size of the main tower with an area of about 16x16m with 4 corner towers, 3 side doors, 1 main door; The depth of foundation is 2.2 meters. Other positions are 1.2 meters deep.

Through research, archaeologists determine the temple tower in Phong Le dating back to the X-XI century.

This is the first temple of Cham tower discovered in the city. Da Nang so far. More than 3 months ago, a villager scrapped a scrap of gold and discovered a Cham gold jar under the land of a resident of this area.
