The new snail is named Aegista diversifamilia , which is endemic to Taiwan, belonging to the Bradybaenidae snail family.

Aegista diversifamilia is described as medium sized snail, the height from the bottom to the top of the shell is 0.97 - 1.68cm and width is 1.98 - 3.24cm.

The shell is glossy, thin but firm with chestnut brown or golden brown color along with narrow curves. Eggs are white and round, about 3mm in size, each spawning from 20 to 30 eggs.

For years, the Aegista diversifamilia has been mistaken for the Aegista subchinensis, a snail widely distributed in Taiwan.

Sci-News said that based on morphological and molecular structure analysis, scientists confirmed that Aegista diversifamilia, in fact is a new species.
