Crater Cerro Galan in the Andes in Argentina

At one of the craters turned off at an altitude of 4,600 m, there is a species of microorganism that has never been known by biologists. Living in a harsh environment on that height, there is a flamingos that use this same microorganism as food.

This discovery surprised the scientific community. The habitat of these organisms is a volcanic reservoir filled with arsenic, one of the most toxic substances for any living organism.

Arsenic concentrations exceeded the permitted average by 20 times. The pH in the crater reaches 11 (the average is 7). In addition, the air pressure on a height of 4,500 m is very low, the radiation and ultraviolet rays are 1.5 times more than the average on our planet.

In such harsh environmental conditions, there is still a species of microorganisms, especially having a living flamingos is a miracle and poses many questions to science.

Scientists are decoding this organism's DNA. The analytical results will reveal the secret of the survival of strange creatures in extreme conditions. On that basis, scientists hope to produce templates that are UV-resistant.
