A team from Stanford University has developed a smartphone application and a phone-ready mini scanner that promises to help early diagnosis of oral cancer.

The small OScan size unit is a single-gum tree, which contains a throat nasal spray , two diodes and a circuit board. When attached to the camera on the phone, this tool helps to capture the entire mouth cavity. Experts say the detailed images recorded can help dentists screen and prevent dental lesions. In the future, Oscan is expected to be the right medical device, a choice in poor and developing countries as it can be produced in large quantities at low cost.
