Diamond 4 billion years old

Australian scientists have dug a diamond that is up to 4 billion years old, equivalent to the age of the earth. Diamond is found in the Jack Hills area in western Australia and is the oldest diamond found in the world.

Scientists believe that through this diamond, they can detect many interesting things in the evolution of the earth's crust. A Jack Hills scientist said: 'Jack Hills is the only place in the world that can provide us with information about the Earth's formation process. We are holding the most ancient matter on earth. '

Earth formed about 4.5 billion years ago and has a very high temperature. Then the temperature gradually decreases, making lava from solidification become stone. Recent findings when studying zircon minerals indicate that the cooling of the earth (from around 6,000 degrees Celsius) takes place faster than we thought.

However, scientists still do not know many details about stone and their formation process. Professor Thorsten Geisler, a mineral scientist at Germany's Munster University, said the discovery of a 4-billion-year-old diamond is proof that the earth's cooling time has been very fast.

Previously the oldest diamond ever found was only 3 billion years old. Scientists also believe that the newly discovered diamond formed about 300 million years after the earth was born.
