Traces of a slug-like creature, of bilateral symmetrical animals, were found in Uruguay by two geological experts of the University of Alberta (Australia) Ernesto Pecoits and Natalie Aubet.

If recognized, the finding will help repel the first time of life on Earth for another 30 million years, according to a Science report.

Earlier, evidence of the world's oldest organisms was found in Russia dating back about 558 million years.

Researchers spent two years analyzing and gathering more evidence before writing a Science report.

AFP quoted Kurt Konhauser, a University of Alberta microbiologist, saying the next step is to study the evolution of these organisms in a way that helps them move to find food.
