Discover the lightest galaxy

American astronomers say they have found the lightest galaxy in the universe, adding a long-awaited member to the collection of galaxies.

The latest member of the galaxy family is a collection of about 1,000 stars with a small amount of dark matter to connect them together. It was named Segue 2.

'Finding a tiny galaxy like Segue 2 is like discovering an elephant smaller than a mouse,' The Los Angeles Times quoted James Bullock, a cosmologist at the University of California in Irvine ( America).

Astronomers have long anticipated the existence of these dwarf galaxies and hunted for years.

If no galaxy could be found such as Segue 2, it would have to be acknowledged that human understanding of the structure of the universe had serious errors, according to Dr. Bullock. .

The identification of Segue 2, thanks to the work of the Keck telescope in Hawaii, is considered a floating part of a giant iceberg.

Segue 2 is one of the galaxies that emits the weakest light ever recorded, with only 900 times the brightness of the sun, while the Milky Way must be 20 billion times brighter.
