Discover the planet has the three Suns closest to Earth

Astrophysicists in the US announced the discovery of a three-star system with planets orbiting in a stable orbit.

In a report published in the Journal of Astronomy on April 2, the team at the Harvard Astrophysics Center - Smithsonian, USA, described how they discovered the three-star system.

According to Phys.org, the planet has three very rare stars and the new discovery is the fourth four-star system found. This star system is exciting in the cosmological research community because it is the closest three-star system to Earth , allowing for better observations of previous findings. The main star is also brighter than the other two stars and they act as the Sun for the planet to revolve around, facilitating easier research on the relationship between the star and the planet.

The object of research in the new system is KELT-4Ab , a giant gas planet, about the size of Jupiter and takes about three days to orbit the star KELT-A, its Sun. The other two stars, respectively, named KELT-B and KELT-C , stayed farther and spun another orbit for approximately 30 years. This pair of stars takes about 4,000 years to spin around the KELT-A.

According to the researchers, if viewed from KELT-4b, KELT-A is 40 times larger than the Sun due to the proximity of them. On the other hand, the other two stars appear fainter due to the large distance and light they emit similar to the Moon.

Cosmologists know the existence of the KELT system a few years ago, but they think that binary stars are actually just a star. The team can observe them clearly thanks to two robot-controlled telescopes in Arizona, the US and South Africa. The telescope duo is named Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope (KELT), so the star system is also named after it.

The three-star system gives scientists the opportunity to learn about giant gas planets like KELT-4b orbiting near the star. In theory, they need to be farther away like Jupiter for the Sun.
