Discover the similarity in the smile between chimpanzees and humans
British scientists published research showing that chimpanzees and people with similar smiles all evolved from the positive expression of ape.
The similarity in the smile between chimpanzees and humans
According to Science Daily, University of Portsmouth , UK scientists published their research yesterday. This shows that chimpanzee communication is very close to humans. They also smiled and did not make a sound.

Lead researcher Marina Davila Ross, PhD, said they studied the facial expressions of primates to understand the evolutionary origin of laughter and human smiles.
" People are able to laugh without speaking or making noises. This ability comes from flexible facial muscles, allowing us to communicate in many ways. But now, we know, chimpanzees also can emit many facial expressions through pronunciation. "
Scientists filmed 46 chimpanzees and used ChimpFACS face coding systems to measure their movements. The co-author of the study, Professor Kim Bard, who designed ChimpFACS, said, "The system allows movement tests on chimpanzees and compares with humans, based on the same facial muscles. "
The study of chimpanzees has many kinds of smiles like the ones that emit sounds, the ones with the same origin that evolved with the smile of people. This shows that the smile comes from the positive expressions of an ancient gibbon and long before evolving into humans.
However, Dr. Davila Ross said, there are still differences between human smiles and gibbons.
"Chimp rarely have bird's feet when smiling, but humans do, especially when laughing. It's called Duchenne's smile, which has a particularly positive effect on the opponent, " she said.
