Drugs against bird flu

Thailand's government-run pharmaceutical organization (GPO) has announced that it has produced a very effective and safe anti-viral drug in the fight against bird flu.

This drug will be submitted to the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for registration in the next 2 months.

According to executives of GPOs, Mongkol Jivasantikarn, GPOs are capable of producing 400,000 pills of this type every day and have the necessary reserves of ingredients to produce 800,000 pills immediately. However, they are still waiting for instructions from the Disease Control Board.

Mongkol declined to comment on whether Thailand will export the drug to neighboring countries.'This depends on patent protection in those countries and we can talk about this in Thailand,' he said.
