Early image of Snow Leopard in Russia
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for the first time captured images of two rare snow leopards in Russia's Altai mountains.
One of the two photographs shows that snow leopard appears during the day. This is considered an anomaly because this predator often lives in seclusion and prefers to hunt when sunset.
Snow leopard is a very elusive species. They live on mountains up to 4,000 meters and are threatened with extinction. According to estimates of scientists, there are only about 6,000 in nature.
The resulting image will help scientists assess the distribution as well as plan to conserve a population of 15 snow leopard on the slopes of Chikhacheva.
Previously, experts could only track this endangered species with footprints, feces, feathers, and teeth marks.
In addition, WWF camera traps also captured images of some precious animals such as Pallas, Gulo mink, Ecmin mink, Ibex goats and Tibetan pheasants, also known as snow chickens.
WWF camera trap last month also recorded a picture of Snow Leopard in Nepal.
