According to Xinhua, Kosik can pronounce at least seven words in the Korean language, such as ' hello ', 'lie down ', ' good ' .

Kim Jong Kap, Kosik coach, said the elephant initially emitted only simple sounds that sounded out of nothing. Gradually the elephant correctly pronounced some words.

Interesting with this information, many scientists went to Everland Park to find out if Kosik knew how to speak or just " parody " his voice. Among these were Dr. Daniel Mietchen from Jena University, Germany.

He said: ' So far we only know Kosik is the only living elephant "to speak", even though there are in fact some elephants that imitate sounds from other elephants or from conversations of people '.

Scientists hope that through Kosik, they can prove that elephants have the ability to learn languages, although they may not understand what they say .
