Photos of the micro-world have always surprised people since the Nikon Small World award was born in 1974. Here are the 2008 award-winning works of the magnified image category.
Sand algae (Pleurosigma) is plankton with a transparent glass-like shell. They play an important role in the removal of CO 2 from the atmosphere. This 200-time magnification photo won first prize this year.
Photo taken from fetal chickens with magnification 6 times won "Photos voted by most viewers".
Amoeba (single-celled microorganism) on a body of a slug. The photo won the fourth prize and had a magnification of 100 times.

The photo of the jumping beetle Orchestia gammarella is 10th in the list of the most impressive photos. It has 10 times the magnification.
The rear leg of the Corixidae bug (underwater) has a magnification of 200 times and is ranked 12th in the list of the most impressive photos.
