Extinguish desire to keep your partner

When mated to an attractive female of fruit fly, males often secretly release protein into the partner's body, making the female no longer want to mate with other guys.

Fruit chisel flies belong to the family Tephritidae, two-winged set (Diptera). Although they are flies, their looks are more like bees. The adult body is light brown. The female uses the egg laying tube to puncture the fruit peel and lay eggs inside. Each drive has 5-10 eggs. A female fly can produce 150-200 eggs. This is one of the most harmful species to crops.

In a recent study, zoologists at Oxford University (UK) discovered male flies transmit a protein to the female body when mating. That phenomenon occurs when children are pursued by many other flies. That protein makes flies fly eggs faster and reduce sexual desire. This reduces the chances of the mating of the flies coming later and making sure that the child comes first will have more descendants. The larger the number of male flies pursuing the female fly, the higher the amount of protein that the male flies injects into the body of the partner.

'We realize that the use of male flies' chemicals through mating is a complex behavior. That protein also exists in arthropods and mammals, including humans. It can be said that it is a drug that inhibits sexual excitement, 'added team member Wigby.

Wigby and colleagues' findings can help scientists figure out how to kill harmful insects through their reproductive behavior. "If we extract the protein that reduces female sexual excitement, we can stop them from reproducing," he explained.
