Extremely rare images of babies with legs growing outside the uterus

A rare pregnancy in France with an ultrasound image shows the baby's legs sticking out of the mother's uterus wall.

When you look at the image above, you will immediately see that this child is kicking his right foot out of the mother's womb. This rare phenomenon is extremely dangerous because MRI resonance scan results show that the cause is not in the baby.

The 33-year-old pregnant mother had a uterine laceration about 2.5cm long and it was expanding. Through the tear, a part of the amniotic sac of 19x12x9cm has spilled out. Amniotic sac is a transparent membrane filled with nutrient liquid located in the uterus. This is a place to protect the baby's growth and development. As a result, the baby's legs come on the knee a little bit, which protrudes out of the uterine wall and can freely kick the mother's stomach.

But this woman did not have any symptoms that showed up about the dangerous incident that was happening in her abdomen. She was unaware of her condition until she performed a routine ultrasound scan on week 22.

According to Dr, Managing Director at the University of Angers Hospital (France), he has never seen such a strange case before.

Doctors believe that five previous maternal caesarean sections have severely weakened the uterine wall.(Image source: New England Medical Times).

This situation is "an extremely rare thing," Bouet said in Science. Only 26 cases have been recorded in medical records worldwide so far.

Doctors say this is the woman's sixth pregnancy. In all five previous pregnancies, she performed caesarean section.

Therefore, persistent consequences from caesarean births have caused this woman to have a high incidence of lacerations on the uterine wall. It seems that previous caesarean births have weakened her uterine wall. However, there is one point that needs attention. That is the tear that does not appear at the exact location that had previously been slaughtered.

The reason is that the area of the uterus has a scar after surgery that is thick and supple. But the areas around the scar are extremely fragile, Bouet said. When the uterus is under pressure during pregnancy, it will form lacerations.

Upon discovering the uterine tear and the phenomenon of amniotic fluid spilling out, doctors informed this woman and her husband about possible risks, including the appearance of additional lacerations. another bow, premature birth and serious complication named accreta placenta , a placental incident not separated from the uterine wall after birth.

Amniotic sacs may also break. If this happens, doctors will have to perform emergency surgery. However, if the amniotic sac breaks prematurely, the fetal survival rate is very low.

Subsequent ultrasound images at week 30 show that the tear has increased and even the baby's body is more likely to leak out of the uterus. Due to the severity of the situation, and the risk for both the baby and the mother, the doctors decided to have an early caesarean section at week 30. Fortunately, a healthy boy weighing 1.4kg was born.

After birth, the mother's uterine wall and hernia sac were treated. In the most recent 6-month examination, the health of both mother and baby was stable.
