Find out why every time we are scared, we always hold each other tightly

When watching horror movies, your first reaction to fear is to hold the person close to you. Why?

This is a phenomenon that will definitely appear every time you watch horror movies. When we are too scared, we always tend to embrace others, or anything that can be hugged around.

But why do we do that? It seems like action is meaningless, but according to science there is a reason behind it: we are just trying to save ourselves.

Acting hug is the way we protect others unconsciously.

In fact, there used to be a theory that hugging is the way we protect others unconsciously. However, experts from Neuchatel University (Switzerland) do not think so.

To verify, they observed 460 pictures of some people who were scared. In it, three-quarters acted to grab others, mainly women and children. However, when standing in a large group, most do not turn to people who are trying to embrace them, but tend to cling to another person. This proves, this is a more defensive action.

When there is more reason, we tend to save others more.

"This action is most likely the way we defend ourselves " - quoted Julie Grezes from the French National Institutes of Health, co-author of the study. "We try to hide behind others, rather than protect them."

Yet Grezes said that it was just an unconscious act, and only for a moment. When there is more reason, we tend to save others more.

For example, in the famous Titanic boat accident, most of the rescued were women and children, because the ill-fated victims prioritized them first.
