Find out why women are more allergic than men
A type of female hormone called estrogen (including three estradiol, estron, estradiol) may cause women to experience more serious allergies than men.

Researchers found in mice with estradiol that boosted an enzyme found in life-threatening allergic reactions.
Estrogens affect blood vessels, so the researchers found that hormones stimulate the anaphylactic shock condition more severe and longer in female mice than male mice.
By giving female mice the use of estrogen blockers, the researchers reduced the activity of the allergic reaction to levels similar to those of male mice.
Anaphylaxis, a serious allergic reaction, can be triggered by certain types of food, medicine, stings and insect bites.
Anaphylaxis occurs when immune cells secrete proteins that cause tissue to swell. Symptoms include redness, difficulty breathing, lightheadedness or heart attack.
However, researchers believe that more research is needed before applying the same treatment to prevent anaphylaxis.
