Find the source of human immortality beliefs

Scientists point out, the belief in immortality forms when we are young.

Most people in the world (regardless of religion or culture) believe that our soul is immortal, will exist forever. Recent research by American scientists has shown that the belief of this immortality is part of human nature , and they have been formed since childhood.

Natalie Emmons and colleagues from Boston University (USA) interviewed 283 children from two different cultures in Ecuador. Thereby, Natalie Emmons realized, culture and religion did not affect the beliefs of children about immortality. Sometimes, they reject the idea of ​​having a prenatal life.

Psychology professor Deborah Kelemen said that most people believe in life in the afterlife but they don't ask questions, where does that belief come from. She and her colleagues suspected that it was the cultural and religious contact that influenced the thinking about the next life in their afterlife.

She interviewed native children in Ecuador's Shuar village, the Amazon basin and compared with Roman Catholic children in urban areas near Quito (Ecuador). Accordingly, she found that Roman Catholic children were taught that life began only when conceiving, and that children in Shuar village believed in continuing life, a constant flow.

Professor Emmons offers pictures of a baby, young woman, pregnant woman and then asks a series of questions about the abilities, thoughts of those children and monitoring their emotions. The results were surprising when both groups gave the same answer.

She argues that, although many children believe, they do not exist before birth and have no ability to think, remember anything before but the emotions and the desire to come to the world always exist.

Professor Emmons shared, although the mind, thinking is the product of the brain, many people have a belief that our soul survives the body and lasts forever. Accordingly, human life is not only short-lived for tens of years and death is not the complete termination of the existence of any individual.
