John Young is one of the most talented astronauts in the history of the US space program. He became NASA astronaut from 1962 and flew six times into space during missions Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle.

His first space trip took place in 1965. He and his astronaut Gus Grissom flew to Earth's orbit to carry out Gemini 3's mission, marking the first flight of two people to the US space.

John Young set foot on the surface of the Moon during his fourth space voyage in April 1972. At that time, he was the commander of the Apollo 16 mission. Along with astronaut Charles Duke, he explored the surface of the Moon, collecting 90kg of rock samples and driving over 26 km.

"Gravity is only 1/6 the Earth on the Moon's surface. It's interesting, you know, it's not like in a gravityless state, you can drop a pencil and have to search for three days. As for the one-sixth gravity, you just need to look down and it will still be there, " Young recounted the moon's discovery on the Houston Chronicle in 2004.

John Young retired in 2004 after 42 years at NASA."We are deeply saddened by the departure of John Young astronaut, " NASA wrote in a statement.
