Fuel cells allow drone to fly for hours without charging
Intelligent Energy, a UK-based energy company, says it has successfully developed a new division for drone, allowing it to operate for hours on fuel cells.
According to the manufacturer, the fuel is stored in a separate compartment and needs to be filled.
The idea behind this system is to convert the chemical energy of the fuel (in this case hydrogen) into electricity , which is then used to charge the battery. Debbie Hughes, PR's Intelligent Energy's chief, said the drone's flight time using the new system will vary, depending on the size of the aircraft. "You could have more fuel for a bigger drone, which means the flight time will be longer, and we believe the number is around two hours," she said.
In test flights, the system delivers power continuously to the drone, enough to mount the camera on it recording video without interruption.
Currently, Intelligent Energy is still looking for commercial partners, companies interested in integrating the system into their drone.
