Future robots will know how to trick people

The sight of a robot leading an enemy into a minefield or a dead end that only appears in sci-fi movies, but soon the robot will be able to perform those behaviors in life.

' We have just created a number of algorithms that allow robots to make their own decisions about fooling people or other smart machines . Robots will also be able to choose the best trick tactics to reduce the risk of being detected , 'Livescience quoted Ronald Arkin, a robotic expert at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the US.

Arkin and his colleagues programmed robots to identify situations in which they could commit fraud. These are situations that cause conflicts, conflicts between robots with objects searching for them and robots that must be beneficial if deceived. After the robot identifies a situation where it is necessary to commit a deceitful act, they will release false information or apply a deception strategy on the information that they already know about the opponent.

The team made 20 ' hide and seek ' tests for two robots. They place colorful objects along the three paths to where the robot can take shelter. When a pair of robots is put into a situation where they must hide, they destroy colored objects on a road and then run to another path. That way they make the pursuers think that they have run through the path of the destroyed objects.

The successful deception rate is 75%, meaning that the pair of robots is not detected in 15 out of 20 trials.

The team thinks that their algorithms can also help robots deceive people. On the battlefield, robots can hide and deceive enemy soldiers. In robot search and rescue campaigns, it is possible to hide the actual situation so that victims feel more secure and optimistic.

Of course, Arkin admits that deceptive robots can cause moral problems. According to him, the deception is accepted in the context of war, but it is condemned by society in other situations. So in the future perhaps governments need to enact regulations on situations where robots can commit fraud.
