German robots will explore the Moon

While Japanese people are preparing to take humanoid robotic robots to the International Space Station (ISS), the German scientists carry out a robot design project to explore the Moon.

DFKI and ZARM Center (Center for the application of space and zero gravity environment) cooperated to design a pair of robots that can explore the crater on the Moon. The project will design a RIMRES robot with 6 legs that can move faster than a roller wheel.

Robot pairs include SHERPA and CREX . In particular, SHERPA is 2.4m long, weighs 200kg, moves by the foot wheel system combining wheel rolling on the rough terrain of the Moon, the legs can independently lift to help it climb over The rocks, avoid getting stuck when moving. The abdomen of SHERPA is equipped with a 1.8m long arm. The main task of SHERPA is to transport small scouting robots called CREX.

1 meter long CREX and weighs 27kg. Because it is small, light and slow, CREX must ask SHERPA to transport from one place to another. When it comes to the "work" position, CREX can move itself with its joint system with the help of sensors.

The forerunner of the RIMRES project is the SpaceClimber project, which has been studied since 2007-2010.

According to Gizmag magazine, it will take a few more years for the SHERPA and CREX robots to be completed for the task of exploring Ms. Hang.
