Roscosmos has announced to recruit astronauts to prepare for the mission to explore the Moon. The scope of open recruitment has all Russian citizens with technical or medical qualifications.

Currently, Russia is developing a spacecraft to serve the mission of bringing people to the Moon. In addition, Russia is also expected to launch two unmanned probes, Luna-Glob and Luna-Resurs, to the Moon between 2015 and 2020.

However, this plan is being considered, since the two probes were developed using the same technology as the Phobos-Grunt Mars probe that fell to Earth last month due to the inactivity of the engine.

Earlier on January 19, Popovkin announced that Russia would build a research station or a moon launcher station with Europe and the United States. The Moon base construction project was also introduced by Soviet scientists during the Cold War in the 1950s.
