Glass has many advantages for people. We can see through and clean it easily. The only nuisance problem with glasses is weak and fragile. That's why the California Institute of Technology and the Berkeley National Laboratory in the US pursue the dream of making glass harder and more resilient than steel, Discovery News said.

In fact, the type of glasses they produce is more durable than all the materials that people know. In its composition there is a palladium, a metal with a high hardness to make up the intrinsic brilliance of glass. That's why experts call it metal glasses.

When tested, the team thrashed glass with a heavy object and found it did not crack completely when they hit hard. Robert Richie, a member of the research team, claims that new glass is stronger than steel because it has good resilience when applied. So it just bends and does not break.

The first version of the glass was just a few glass rods with a diameter of one millimeter. When experts from the California Institute of Technology add silver to the mix, the diameter of the bar increases to 6 mm. Metallic glass should be cooled rapidly to ensure hardness and elasticity. Therefore, their diameter can not be large.

Ritchie and colleagues believe that their research will lead to the emergence of more durable glass.
