Greece uses robots to rescue refugees at sea
Greek marine police are preparing to use rescue robots at sea to rescue refugees.
This EMILY robot is capable of rescuing five people at a time and can be controlled remotely. Previously, Greek police used drone to assist with rescue work. However, drone can only detect refugees and can not directly help them escape drowning. EMILY is different, it's like a float on the sea for refugees to cling to. Then, the robot will take the victim to the rescue boat.

EMILY can operate for 20 minutes but its battery can be replaced easily. The distance that this robot can move up to more than 700 meters. Its maximum speed is 35km / h. The robot-mounted flag makes it easy for the operator to observe it.

Earlier, EMILY was used to rescue drowning victims or those trapped in floodwaters. However, in the near future it will be used to rescue refugees when their boats are overturned at sea. EMILY will do the job of rescuing healthy people while rescuers focus on helping children and those who are unconscious.
In the future, EMILY will work with helicopters and rescue ships to improve the effectiveness of refugee rescue at sea.
