Ha Giang successfully propagated four precious tree species

In early 2006, in Thai Phin Tung commune (Dong Van district), Ha Giang province implemented the project " Conservation and development of rare genetic resources and biodiversity protection " funded by the Global Environment Fund. The project aims to conserve and develop 4 rare and precious gymnosperm species discovered in Thai Phin Tung commune: short-leaved bamboo conifers , northern red pine pine , brown-striped pine cones, and yellow herds are at great risk of being threatened. strains.

The project staff has already propagated these varieties. Among the four existing species in Thai Phin Tung, only the northern red pine was propagated by cuttings and succeeded in 1993. The remaining three species were first propagated by successful cuttings at Thuy Phin Tung.

The project has invested in construction in Thai Phin Tung house with homeland with area of 200m 2 and in early 2006, scientists and technicians have applied technical measures to implement nearly 10,000 cuttings of tree species. rare precious seeds.

After 6 months of follow-up, more than 90% of cuttings were propagated to a root length of 2 to 3 cm. By the end of last September, a number of well-developed cuttings were planted under the forest canopy and the remaining stems will be planted in the next spring crop.

The first successful breeding of conifer tree plants in Thai Phin Tung has contributed practically to the conservation and development of these four conifer species in Ha Giang and Vietnam.
