The hole is about 6 meters wide and 6 meters deep still continues to fall. People living in the area told officials when they saw it near the parking lot. They were ordered to pack up and evacuate when the hole grew deeper and deeper, News Chronicle said.

A nearby resident, Edwin Williams, said a loud bang made them up on the morning of July 11. Everyone saw the neighbor's car falling into the pit.

A local official said they have not yet identified the cause of the pit appearing. There are no broken pipes around.

According to the US Geological Survey, the phenomenon of hell holes occurs most commonly in the states of Florida, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Pennsylvania. The soil in these states contains many easily soluble or soluble solids such as limestone, carbonate and salt. When groundwater flows through those hard substances, they will decompose or dissolve, leaving underground holes and caves. When the caves of the underground caves collapsed, it followed the land above that made the cave appear.

Some "hell holes" gradually disappear due to sand and soil falling and covering. Many other holes subsided when decomposing rocks were exposed to rain and wind, Livescience said.
