High-speed rail in Europe
First-class compartment, that's what business people like to fly in expectation. Only 10 minutes in the waiting room, then the seat was smooth, noisy and served a delicious meal.
Now that is also true at the Waterloo train station in London.
Since the beginning of January 2005, the international railway company Eurostar has opened a new service, Business Premier, to compete in cross-strait transport with the airline industry.
Paul Charles, director of Eurostar, confirmed for the first time that passengers will enjoy high standard service on a short journey, from London to Paris and Brussels.
Eurostar international high-speed railway.
In fact, thanks to faster travel times and higher levels of convenience, Eurostar trains are operating more efficiently. Flights to Paris do not even exist at London's two major airports, Gatwick and Stansted. Eurostar currently occupies the majority of passengers on the London - Paris route.
In the first 6 months of this year, the company transported 17% of passengers on these routes. On the European continent, half of the passengers traveling on the Thalys high-speed train from Paris to Brucxen, Amsterdam and Cologne are entrepreneurs, the highest rate in the world.
Of course the fare is not cheap, a first-class seat on the route between Paris and London takes 300 euros, but Wi-Fi internet connections are already used on Thalys, making the actual train time effective.
The journey is made right in the center of big cities with very high speed.
The latest generation of high-speed trains can reach speeds of 300 km / h and more European routes are being built. The International Railway Union in Paris predicts that the whole continent will have about 6,000km of high-speed rail in 2010, double that of 2000.
That means that the route to connect big cities will soon be implemented within 3 hours, under the threshold of causing psychological discomfort when sitting for a long time, can completely compete with air routes.
New rail lines are under construction, including a route connecting Rome with Naples that will be inaugurated this winter, shortening travel time to an hour from 105 minutes ago.
A new Paris - Strasbourg route will open in 2007, reducing more than two hours in the journey of more than four and a half hours today. The plans to upgrade this year will also save the Amsterdam - Paris route by more than 90 minutes.
Many people believe that the prosperity of high-speed rail system is creating an increasingly gloomy picture for the aviation industry which is facing many difficulties.
