A huge meteorite has been discovered by experts at Boston University (USA) in the desert area Gilf Kebir, West Egypt, thanks to aerial photographs.

The pit mouth is 31 km wide, 25 times larger than the famous meteorite hole in Arizona State, USA. In the past, people did not 'see' because it was too big.

Dr. Farouk El-Baz, director of the Boston University Remote Detection Center, commented: 'The search for craters only focuses on small craters, especially bodies with bodies. fixed on the ground. So the benefit of the view from outer space is that we can see an entire area '.

The large size of the aforementioned crater reminds American scientists of a powerful collision of a large meteorite equivalent to a 1.2-kilometer Barringer meteorite falling into Arizona state. This collision devastates all organisms on a large area of several hundred square kilometers.

65 million years ago, a large meteorite hit the ground created Chicxulub crater in Mexico with a diameter of about 160-240 km. It is suspected that this collision has made extinct dinosaurs.
