Humans will perish before cockroaches?

The Week has published shocking information that cockroaches will last longer than humans. So where is the cause?

1. They are adaptable in very short time

In the mid-80s of the last century, insecticides began to mix sugar with a poison that had a slow effect to spread disease and kill cockroaches. At first, this strategy proved to be quite effective, but by 1993, the toxic substance in the mixture was no longer effective.

A study by scientists from North Carolina State University, USA, shows that cockroaches have changed the chemical composition of the body, making the sugar more bitter with them. The cockroaches survive after eating the toxin, which has transmitted ' hate hate' to later generations.

2. Cockroaches do not need males to breed

Female cockroaches can lay 40 to 60 offspring in each birth. But what is special is that they are virgin animals (meaning no male cockroaches to reproduce).

3. They can survive in radioactive environments

Mytbuster, an American entertainment science program, tested the effects of radiation on cockroaches. They found that 10% of thousands of cockroaches could survive 30 days under radiation conditions like in the Hiroshima reactor. The Slate newspaper explained that it may be because cockroaches are a simple organic organization, with few genes so they are less genetically modified.

4. They can hold their breath for a long time

Many people will be surprised why many insecticides do not work with cockroaches. It's simple, because they have an extremely effective respiratory system. In 2009, a study by Australian scientists proved that cockroaches could hold their breath for 5 to 7 minutes.

Oxygen flow will enter the trachea through a lot of valves, called vesicles in animals. Sometimes cockroaches close these breathing holes and stop breathing. This action can help it fight dehydration, especially during dry periods.

5. Cockroaches can live without their heads

'Cockroaches do not have the system of blood vessels or capillaries like humans to circulate blood in the body. Instead, they have an open circulatory system , 'said Joseph Kunkel, a biochemist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. When the cockroach loses its head, it can still breathe and live for weeks after that. However, they lose their ability to find food, often done with the coordination of the brain and beard.
