'Hunting' meteorites with private telescopes

A group of scientists is gathering to build a telescope to explore the universe with the world's first private money to hunt down meteorites capable of threatening the earth.

The private telescope is the center of the Sentinel Project - the space exploration mission announced June 28 in California (USA) - by the non-profit B612 Foundation set up by a group of scientists to discover the planets and monitor meteors more effectively.

Specifically, this project will develop a super sensitive telescope to put on orbit around the sun with the aim of creating the first comprehensive map of our solar system. The map will provide current and future images as well as the path of near-earth objects to facilitate the protection of the earth from future meteorite impacts as well as exploitation. solar system.

Ed Lu, president and chief executive officer of B612, who was a former pilot working for the US Aerospace Agency (NASA), used to fly to space by US shuttle and Soyuz capsule. Russia, as well as living and working for a while on the International Space Station (ISS) said: 'A large telescope powered by private money is nothing crazy. In fact, there used to be many large telescopes built in private money. The difference is that this telescope is not placed on the earth but on the solar orbit. "

Under the contract signed between NASA and B612, NASA will provide space telecommunications services and tracking as well as technical support for the project. The Sentinel project will complete a survey of objects near the earth in the next 5.5 years.

According to the plan, the Sentiel project telescope will be put on a solar orbit in 2016 with the SpaceX Falcon private 9. The spacecraft operation center will be located at the Space Physics Laboratory and atmosphere at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
