Impressed by hundreds of thousands of turtles landing on the beach
At sunset, when the tide rises, millions of Olive Ridley turtles hit the shore. Although this phenomenon occurs in most of the world, in Costa Rica, it only happens on the two main beaches of Nancite and Ostional.
Olive ridley turtles are medium sized, often found in warm, tropical waters.
On the coast of Ostinal, hundreds of thousands of sea turtles nest collectively with millions of turtle eggs on the beach.
When they land on beaches, a large number of female turtles will come ashore.
Each female turtle will leave 80-100 white eggs on the beach. After 5 days, staying on the beach will have about 10 million eggs.
At first, only a few hundred turtles were on the beach, but three to seven days later, the number of turtles landing on the beach was extremely large. In the dry season, there are about 10,000 animals, while in the rainy season there are about hundreds of thousands of children.
So far, at Ostinal Beach, the largest number of arribada turtles hitting the shore is about 500,000 female turtles, in November 1995.
