Inaugurated 12 Mekong hydrological monitoring stations

On March 7, in Can Tho, the Mekong River Commission (MRC) inaugurated 12 hydrological monitoring stations which were upgraded under the project to support the implementation of the Mekong hydrological monitoring system - HYCOS.

The project is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), the French World Environment Fund (FFEM) with a total amount of 3 million euros. The project is implemented by the Mekong River Commission and specialized ministries of four member countries including Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

The project is supported by science and technology of the Institute of Development Studies (IRD), National Company of Rhône Region (CNR) and World Meteorological Organization.

The technical goal of the project is to establish a highly reliable regional hydrological monitoring system (collecting and sharing data almost immediately), common for four member countries to monitor regional water resources. downstream.

To achieve this goal, the countries of the Mekong River Commission have built and upgraded 32 hydrometeorological stations on the main branches of the Mekong, Tonle Sap and the Mekong Delta.

These stations have been upgraded by automatic measuring system of water level and rainfall; data storage system; The telemetry system allows transferring data collected by satellite if possible or by any other suitable means of communication.

For Vietnam, 12 hydro-meteorological observation stations are funded by the project and supported for exploitation and maintenance, and within the framework of the project, the domestic irrigation agencies also enjoy many excavation activities. create.
